As mentioned on our Instagram page, it's Emmys weekend and that means the Team Canada entourage from our parent company takes over Buff Loft in West Hollywood to produce red carpet programming for radio syndication. What does that mean for us? We become homeless! Well, not really. They actually move us down the street to a fancy hotel in Beverly Hills, so don't feel sorry for us too quickly!
Normally, it's just the brew crew that packs up and moves but this time we've got Kyle from Happy Bulge and the boss' dogs. So, it's a packed hotel suite this weekend.
With the Canadians arriving last Friday and leaving on Tuesday, we spend four days in the hotel. The great thing about our work is we don't sit at desks all day. We operate with laptops and cars so it's easy to get the job done from anywhere. We've had some decent weather so much of the weekend was spent outside in the hotel's courtyard and its rooftop lounge.
With Sunday rolling around we enjoyed our traditional brunch together, this time in one of the hotel's restaurants. Leo, new to the concept of buffet-style eating, was amazed that he could eat all of the foods that were laid out (within reason, of course). After several plates and probably an equal number of drinks, we went back to the suite.
The wild thing is, because our bosses know everybody and our company has business relationships with so many places in town, there was a knock at the door shortly after brunch. The restaurant packaged up leftovers from the buffet and brought them for the boss' dogs. Crazy!
We split up in the afternoon with some of the brew crew heading to the gym for a workout, tanning at the pool, or just lounging around and napping. We tuned into the stream of our colleagues at the Emmys and eagerly waited for their photography to appear in our media drive. It's always exciting to get a glimpse into their Hollywood world.
We watched the Emmys and each had the same reaction to most of the nominees and winners: who dat? We couldn't figure out if we just don't watch enough TV or if there's too much TV out there to keep track. We concluded it was the latter. Well, maybe both, actually.
After the Emmys, the Canadian delegation wrapped up production and headed back to Buff Loft, with our bosses hitting up some after-parties (since the company has working relationships with each of the TV networks and production houses). Our hotel group went out to have some late-night nibbles and drinkies down the street in Los Angeles. (If you're not familiar with this area, you can literally walk from Beverly Hills to West Hollywood along the same street, and hang a right and walk for 10 minutes and be in Los Angeles. So, yeah, in roughly 20 minutes you can hit three cities on foot.)
We talked the usual shit about each other and maybe got a little too loud for the other patrons but we did our thing as we always do. We departed at midnight and crashed in the hotel.
Our Monday consists of a Happy Bulge bootcamp with Kyle who's cluing us in on the upcoming fall and winter season and what we need to know about the store. (If you didn't know: we run the Happy Bulge social media pages on Fridays. So, when you send all those filthy messages, you're actually writing to us. Perverts!)
