Brazilian Carnival: WeHo style!

With Brazilian Leo in our lives for nearly four years, we've heard all about the world-famous Carnival festival. It's flashy and over the top and completely not like us. Well, give us some booze and we'll make it work.

It's not an event that any of us has had the opportunity to experience (save for Leo and our other Brazilian, Boss 2) so we looked at dozens of photos and videos from South America and got some feather headdresses and colorful spandex and, well, the rest is history.

Initially, on social media, we teased we also had body paint to complete our festive looks. That was true. The problem was, we rented the costume accessories and since feathers are very easily damaged -- especially by paint -- we opted not to go full paint out of respect for the costume company.

FROM LEO:

Is very special I get for have the party of my home Brasil because Carnival is famous and much part of my culture. Is a celebrate the country with music and food. There is dance and has parade. Is fun because is almost week of party with every day happiness. The dress is beautiful and has colours for it.

When the Buff Boys brothers tells me we to have Carnival party I think is joke jejeje. Then we go to the shop and we see the dress and party to have and is special. At the night we have the music and there is food from my home Brasil. Is fun to have party as suprise with my American family.

FROM (BRAZILIAN) BOSS 2:

Carnival is part of our culture. It's an incredible event leading up to Easter where the entire country of Brasil celebrates the community, but most of it happens in Rio. I remember the first time going with my family and seeing the colourful costumes and watching dancers. In our town there were sometimes smaller events because not everyone could afford to go to Rio but still wanted to celebrate. When I was old enough to appreciate the experience I saw it from a new perspective. I was also old enough to drink and have a really good time! There's definitely a Carnival for kids and families, and one for adults.

I've been asked to describe the Carnival experience but it's difficult to do that because there are so many elements to the festival. It's a celebration of love and the Brasilian culture and heritage. That's done through performances and parties. And of course if you're into the club scene it's basically a giant rave for a week if that's what you're into.  There's no shortage of food and music which is common in Brasilian life. It's an amazing experience.
