The irony struck me immediately. A guy named Lane having a motor museum in Nashville. And that's the case for Jeff Lane who started this local exhibition, called Lane Motor Museum.
It feels like part car dealership and part parking garage. If you think you're coming here to see old cars, you're partially right. If you want to see weird contraptions and vehicles that make you do a double-take, you've come to the right place. I found myself wondering how people could travel in some of the vehicles but I was assured that they do operate and some of them even take to the streets of Nashville from time to time.
There is a huge selection of European cars on display. The museum boasts one of the largest collections in the country. While they're shiny and looking showroom new, many of them have been restored and need(ed) some TLC.
Though I didn't get to take any for a spin myself, it was pretty cool to sit in some of them and see how little leg room there is -- or on the flip side, just how big some of the interiors are. Perhaps the staff got a little annoyed at how often I honked some of the horns but you've gotta go for the full experience while you're here.
The tower of vehicles had everyone wondering if the floor could support all the weight. Sure enough, it can. This weighs in at nearly 28,000 lb.
I'm guessing Jay Leno loves this place. With over 150 vehicles on display, you can spend hours looking inside and out. It's fascinating to see how cars and technology have evolved over the years.
In addition, I'm happy to see how safety has also improved. I'd be scared to take to the streets in some of these cars and contraptions! Some of the collection dates back to the early 1900s. Needless to say, things have changed -- big time.
When I noted that the museum feels partially like an auto dealership, that's because some of the vehicles are for sale. If you're a car buff, you'd likely get a thrill out of owning one of the classic cars and fixing it up to be a real beauty.
